AE Battles Back for Big B Championship!
Excitement was in the air as the boys began the 2012 Bob Tansley Tillsonburg AE tournament this past weekend.

The Atom division featured the hometown Tornadoes, Dorchester, Caledonia, Port Hope and Ilderton.

The tournament got off to a frustrating start, got a little lower, than took off!

On Friday evening in the opening game of the tournament the boys faced a small but very quick team from Port Hope. Despite spending the majority of the game in the Port Hope end, the boys couldn't find the net with many shots while Port Hope were able to score on their fewer chances on route to a 3-1 (Rusnak from Holman) win over Tburg.

Saturday afternoon had the boys facing another big challenge in the Ilderton team and they did not disappoint. Again few shots lead to not many scoring chances and only 1 goal on their way to a 5-1 (Kowalski from Main, Rusnak) loss.

Sunday morning came with a new energy and determination as the boys now had to play there way through an improved Caledonia team.  After 2.5 periods of good end to end hockey there was still no score. It wasn't until 2:06 remaining that Tburgs hard work, big increase in shots and effort paid off with a huge goal (Lee from Holman, Gardham).  The Forwards held their positions wide, back checked and went hard to the net.  The defence lead the way with the most shots and stopped them time and again but the forwards were pressing hard and it paid off.

This lead to an appearance in the the B Final, a title won by the Atom AE team last year, against the same Port Hope team.  This game was a thriller and it was almost as entertaining to watch the family and friends in the stands as the boys on the ice.

After 2 exciting scoreless periods the tie was broken by Port hope by a bit of bad luck for Tburg. With a full press the boys through everything they had and scrambled there way to a tying goal (Lee from Gordham) with only 1:06 on the clock. Off to 3 on 3 overtime, no changes on whistles and penalty shot awarded for penalties. The tension was increased when a questionable trip was called putting the pressure on Kyle Nesplic who calmly rose to the occasion. With that lift the boys were on a mission and they delived with the winning goal coming from Roberts (Moore, Kowalski) at 2:34 left in OT

Congrats Boys! Lets keep it going!
