Simcoe Edges Tornadoes in Final
The final game of the Novice Local Leage A playoffs was played on Sunday March 10th in Norwich and it couldn't have been more exciting.
All the kids played hard and did their best but unfortunately this day belonged to a very hungry Simcoe team. It was looking like overtime might be needed to decide the winner until Simcoe slid the puck past Evan Starkey late in the third period to go up 2 - 1. Evan played an awesome game; he stopped several breakaways and tough shots throughout the game. Our hats go off to Simcoe who played a near perfect game. Their defence blocked a ton of our shots and those that did get through were ably put aside by a goaltender who was standing on his head. A big congratulations goes out them.
Despite the loss, the coaching staff could not be more proud of this group of kids. Good teams are defined by the way they win but great teams are defined by the way they lose. Even though losing was uncharted waters for these kids, as well as knowing that this game was the final game, every single one of them showed dignity and class at the end of the game. This is the true meaning of sportsmanship and the coaches are extremely proud to have this team represent Tillsonburg.
We had a tremendous season on and off the ice and I know that our number one rule was strictly adhered to in every single game and practice: Have Fun!
The regular season and playoffs are over now, but we still have a lot of hockey left and a lot of fun to come. This week is the Mt. Brydges tournament and next week is the Tillsonburg Max Partlo tournament. Win or lose, the coaching staff knows that Tillsonburg will be very well represented by this outstanding group of kids.
