Mt. Brydges March Break Tourney Champs!
The Novice LL #2 kids come home with 1st place in the Mt. Brydges March Break Tournament.

The first game was against Thamesford and the kids played a near perfect game with a 14 - 0 win.  Evan Starkey was again rock solid in net and earned the shutout.  After the game, the Coach of the Thamesford squad congratulated the team and said that the way we move the puck and play the game is how hockey is supposed to be played; a very very nice compliment.

The following day was a day that we knew we could end up playing 3 games in if we continued to win.  The first game of the second day was against Ilderton White who we had played before in the Strathroy tournament.  The interesting thing is that this Ilderton team regularly defeats the Ilderton Blue team that gave us our first loss of the year in the Strathroy tournament.  Despite this the kids again played their hearts out and we came away with a convincing 8 - 3 victory.  Evan Starkey moved to 2 - 0 in the tournament while coming up with some spectacular saves.

This then meant that we were on to the semifinal game and our opponent was Dorchester who we knew nothing about.  They came rushing out of the gate and scored 15 seconds into the game and never looked back.  The final was a 7 - 2 victory with Trevor Nunn convincingly shutting the door.

The final game was against Mt. Brydges Red who we also faced in the Port Stanley tournament where we only beat them by 2 - 1.  We knew they were a tough team with an excellent goaltender so we had our work cut out for us.  Coach MacFadden led the kids in a pre-game warm-up that the Leafs should be taking notes from and it worked like a charm.  The kids played a fantastic game.  The Cougars tied it up 2 - 2 but the kids were unshaken and potted 2 more goals to put the game away and win 4 - 2.

Awesome tournament kids - very well deserved and a huge congrats!!

Next stop Tillsonburg Max Partlo Tournament next weekend.
