Great Effort at Regional Silver Stick
This past weekend was full of excitement, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and of course great hockey.  Unfortunately the boys came up short in their quest for the Reginal Silver Stick championship.

The Regional Silver Stick tournament is one of the biggest tournaments all year, and it definitely did not disappoint. It was very well organized there were some terrific hockey teams in the Atom division all shooting hard for the chance to represent at the International Silver Stick tournament in January.

The boys opened the tourney up with a near perfect game against arch-rival Simcoe.  Some amazing passing and a powerplay that included cycling the puck around to the point to get a good open shot were all part of this match.  Simcoe is a solid well coached team so winning 4 - 1 says a lot.

The next game was against Caledonia.  This game was tight with the Thunder showing some tenacity and strong desire to win, but ultimately the boys came out on top 3 - 2.

The following morning was against the Barrie Colts.  The boys got out to a quick 2 - 0 lead and dominated in the first half of this game.  Highlights included some textbook breakouts and again a really strong powerplay.  The way these kids pass the puck is really something to see.  The Colts answered back with a goal but Tristin and the D shut 'er down and the game ended with a 2 - 1 victory which guaranteed a spot in the semi final game.

Everyone was watching the other pool closely where the teams were also battling it out.  Glanbrook finished second in their pool which meant we played them in the semi-final.  The Tornadoes gave it their all and had a ton of shots on net, but unfortunately came up just short with a 2 - 1 loss.  The Rangers are a good team and we'll face them again in our league play soon.

Coach Eric said it perfectly - "good teams know how to win, but great teams know how to lose".  There was not a single player who showed any sort of unsportsmanlike attitude when losing - everyone held their heads high and represented Tillsonburg exactly as they should - with class and dignity.  Of course its disappointing to lose, and there were some tears, but at the end of it all the boys knew they left it all out on the ice and did the best they could.

We'll get 'em next time!
