Tornadoes Touch Down, Win Bob Tansley Tournament!
From the moment the puck dropped at the start of Game 1 to the final buzzer that would bring the 2014 Bob Tansley Memorial AE Tournament to a close, the Tillsonburg Peewee AE Tornadoes would maintain one of the most important aspects of any tournament victory, focus.
Coming into Game 1 of the 2014 Bob Tansley Memorial AE Tournament this past weekend, the Tillsonburg Peewee AE's were rolling with a 5 game winning streak in league action. Goal scoring has recently been spread quite evenly throughout the team, the defense corp has been playing very well and goaltending has been game to game solid. Perfect timing! Let the tournament begin!
Shut-out wins would come verses competitive teams from Ilderton (Game 1) and Duffield (Game 3) but saw the Tornadoes outscore these opponents by a combined total of 12-0. A much closer contest would come against a very determined Collingwood Blackhawk team. With both teams feeling the effects of a long Saturday, this Game 4 nail-biting victory would eventually go to Tillsonburg by a final score of 2-1.
One of the best games during the weekend in the Peewee division took place Saturday morning between the Tornadoes and a skillful team from Port Hope. During this entire Game 2, both teams relentlessly pursued puck and opponent. A game full of great passes, near miss "one timers" and a slew of goal-crease moans and groans, it had "Finals" written all over it! In the end both teams would settle for a tough 1-1 tie. Great game!
Tillsonburg would complete their 4 tournament games with a record of 3-0-1, finishing 1st overall in their division and sending them to the Finals on Sunday. The championship game would again match Tillsonburg versus Port Hope. Both teams played a very tight checking first period with either team giving up any "quality" scoring chances. Tillsonburg would continue to press and eventually scored to take a 1-0 lead. That lead would soon increase to 2-0 and by game's end the Tillsonburg Peewee AE's would win this Sunday afternoon Final by a score of 3-0. Way to go Boys!
In 5 games the Tornadoes scored 18 goals and allowed just 2 goals against! Very Impressive!
