Roy Beachey Memorial Rep - Novice Division Summary

This weekend the Novice Tornadoes fared well at their home tournament aka Roy Beachey Memorial Rep Tournament.



First game was against Six Nations Friday night, winning 1-0, giving Hoorelbeke a well-earned shutout and the only goal scored by VanderGulik halfway through the 3rd period.

Second game against Saugeen Shores Storm was an exciting and challenging game for the Tornadoes. In the first period, Balega scored one and shortly after Saugeen scored 2 goals. The Tornadoes were able to hold them off through the second period and in the third period O’Brien scored with an assist by Weaver giving the game a 2-2 tie.

Saturday was the third game against the well-known opponent to the Tornadoes, the Delhi Rockets. A confident win for the Tornadoes giving them a 6-1 score. Goals scored each by Gubesch and Hodges. Balega scored 4 points placing him on the point Leader Board for the Novice division. Three assists for Heleniak and one assist for VanderGulik.

Their 2 wins and one tie brought the Tornadoes to the Semifinals against Six Nations. Goals scored by Weaver and Hodges, 2 scored by Balega. Assists by Weaver, Vadendriessche, Rapai and 2 for Gubesch. Hoorelbeke also got his second shutout of the tournament and earned himself an MVP for the game. The game ended in a 4-0 score.

The Novice Tornadoes went into the finals full of energy and determination against Saugeen Shores. The first period was tough as Saugeen led the game 2-0.

In the second period, The Tornadoes started coming back with one goal scored by VanderGulik and assisted by Hodges and O’Brien. Saugeen then scored again before the second period ended continuing to lead 3-1.

The third period was intense with Tornadoes tying the game 3-3 with both goals scored by O’Brien and assisted by VanderGulik for one. However, Saugeen scored in the last 40 seconds of the game, breaking the tie of 3-3 and taking the win. These determined kids worked hard and gave it their all until the game was over.

Even though they came in second place, the team was proud of their accomplishments over the weekend and becoming a stronger team. Hoorelbeke came away with Goalie MVP award for the novice division and Heleniak, Belaga, VanderGulik and Hoorelbeke were given game MVPs through the weekend.
