Happy New Year from the TMHI Board
Find out what the TMHI Board has been up to this season........ The board of directors for TMHI would like to take this opportunity to wish all of your families the best for 2014.  We wanted to provide the membership an update of the activities we have completed as we head into the New Year.  This year’s board continues to build on the excellent foundation set by our predecessors. .

The activities for this board started at our AGM with a restructuring of the board to better manage the key functions of the organization including Finance, Operations, Communication, Planning and Administration.   We added several new members to the board including Geoff Cork, Brett Ferguson, Eric McFadden, Jacqueline Bailey and Adam Hunter.  Together, the new board developed a strategic plan which aligns our core values of respect, accountability and work ethic with initiatives we are developing for our current and future members.  We remain committed to ensuring our membership upholds the code of conduct as our first priority.

One of the most discussed topics for TMHI over the past couple of years has been financial planning.  In May we delivered a budget with a 10 year plan to reduce excess funds currently held by TMHI.  The entire group felt spending the extra funds over a long range period would have the greatest effect on the most number of participants.  The budgeting process also provided the information necessary to improve fee setting at registration and we were pleased to have decreased the registration costs for our initiation program members.

Within the new board structure our Operational group has implemented a number of new initiatives.  Many of you will have recognized the work of this group with improved management of equipment, greater focus on goaltender skill development and increased skills clinic offerings.  Members of the Operations Committee, co-chaired by Derek Partlo and Dave Moylan, have liaised with coaches at all levels and managed the fall tryout process again this year.  Recently, the Operations group restructured the tryout procedure to eliminate the Spring portion of the skates.

The most visible changes around TMHI have been spearheaded by our Communications department.  This year two members of this group took on the responsibility for our new jersey design, which has received positive feedback from many members, as well as new team wear design.  This group continues to find best practices for communication to our membership including our website tmhi.org.

The members of our Planning group have redesigned the weekly ice schedule to maximize game time on the Memorial arena with special focus on our local league teams.  This group has also managed the duties of hosting 3 successful tournaments so far this year with one more remaining on the schedule.  Geoff Cork deserves special mention here as the driving force behind our new advertising initiatives related to tournament sponsorship.  The group has also worked with members of the community center staff to better communicate ice usage and minimize cancellations.

We look forward to implementing further improvements for the organization in the coming months.  If you see any opportunities for improvement of the organization please feel free to talk to any of the members of the board of directors.  We look forward to a successful 2014 season.

Happy New Year on behalf of the entire board,

Scott Baird

President
